David Padgett

David Padgett, Artist at The Studios at North Gallery

David Padgett became interested in art at an early age, using drawing as a means to express his emotions about nature. Early experiences in the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico kindled his attraction to the landscape, the animals that live there and the many moods it can relay to the viewer. These experiences sealed forever his desire to try and capture these events on canvas. Being mostly self-taught, Padgett wanted to further advance his painting skills doing workshops with such notable painters as Stan Loewenkamp, Chuck Mardoz, Tom Dooley, and Ralph Oberg.

Working in oil paint, he paints mostly landscapes, cityscapes, and wildlife. All his paintings are a combination of personal experience, observation in the field, and intense study of habitat and animal behavior.

WHY I PAINT

“Observations from life usually have some emotional impact. These observations create images and beckon the creator of art to further describe this emotion in their chosen medium. My medium is oil paint. Most of the time I have an idea of how I want to express it, but sometimes it may be days, weeks, or even years before it becomes clear. But no matter how long it takes, it’s still trial and error when you get to the canvas. Why? Because there’s no formula that can be applied. It all comes from your personal creativity. This is what motivates you.
