Kerry Billington, Artist

Kerry Billington has held a lifelong passion for art and color, a sentiment rooted in his early years when he would meticulously trace animals and images from encyclopedias, adorning them with complementary colored crayons. Raised in the Oklahoma City area, Kerry's frequent visits to the zoo, Oklahoma lakes, and state parks cultivated a deep appreciation for nature, evident in his art, which often showcases vibrant landscapes and magical animals. The impact of artwork and sculptures in local museums and public art venues left left a lasting impact on Kerry from a young age, a sentiment that persists today. He continues to enjoy exploring the creations of various artists and delving into art literature. Kerry remains committed to self-education, constantly refining his technique and skill set.

Graduating with a Design degree from Oklahoma State University in 1983, Kerry's journey into painting gained momentum after completing various art courses at the University of Central Oklahoma. Over the years, he has honed his distinctive style characterized by vivid, dynamic paintings. His unique use of brushwork, palette knife and tube application is done with spontaneous energy and passion.

Kerry and his wife, Janie, reside on an acreage in the Edmond area, sharing their space with a menagerie of animals, including dogs, cats, llamas, and a large African Spur Tortoise named Gracie.

Reflecting on his work, Kerry describes his paintings as fresh, spirited, and uplifting. Through the spontaneous application of color and texture, he aims to imbue true emotion and life into his subjects, fostering a similar connection for those who encounter his art. His unique interpretations of landscapes and wildlife, characterized by vibrant and exaggerated colors, breathe life into his subjects, conveying a spectrum of moods from excited energy to serene tranquility. Kerry's artistic aspiration is to be recognized as an artist who brings joy and inspiration to others, with his love for painting and the creative process evident in every piece.
